Overview

What is Cemimax DP80 Primer?

CEMIMAX DP80 is a one-component low-emission multipurpose dispersion primer with carbon fibre technology for non-absorbent substrates. It forms a fast-drying bonding film on dense and smooth surfaces before the application of adhesives, smoothing layers or self leveling compound systems. DP80 is ready to use, solvent free and suitable for interior and exterior use.

Where is it used?

  • Soundly bonded ceramic and natural stone tiles
  • Terrazzo flooring
  • Epoxy coatings and water resistant coatings
  • Metal surfaces
  • Well-bonded, non-water-soluble adhesive residues including cutback adhesive
  • Existing surfaces in need of refurbishment
  • Priming before self leveling compound installation

Installation

How Cemimax DP80 Primer is applied

01

Subfloor preparation

The subfloor must be thoroughly cleaned, dry and free of debris, loosely bonded surfaces and active cracks. It must be completely free of contaminants such as curing compounds, solvent-based markers, paint, oil, grease and wax. Test the substrate for moisture content in accordance with applicable standards. Remove any weakly bonded material such as adhesive residue, leveling compounds, floor coverings or coatings by shot blasting, abrading, grinding or scraping. Do not apply over water-soluble adhesive or substrates containing asbestos.

02

How to apply

Do not dilute with water. Stir the container thoroughly until all settled material is off the bottom and suspended in the liquid. Apply a full, even and thin coat with a 3/4 nap nylon roller, taking care not to leave puddles at the roller edges as this delays drying and can affect bonding. Allow the primer to dry to a clear, transparent and almost tack-free film with a slightly sandpaper-like feel. The primer is touch dry in 15 to 20 minutes and drying time is approximately 1 hour. Do not leave the primed surface exposed to the elements for more than 2 hours. Clean equipment immediately with water.

03

System integration

CEMIMAX DP80 functions as a bonding primer within the complete flooring installation system, preparing non-absorbent substrates to ensure long-term flooring adhesion performance. It is used ahead of adhesives, smoothing layers and Cemimax leveling compounds such as DL59, which are applied within the drying time of the primer. If applied over a moisture vapor retarder, the retarder must be properly installed first.
